The Opportunity
Our client is a large, established industrial services organisation with a complex operating structure across Australia. They are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead and develop the tax function across compliance, advisory and a small team. This newly created role will play a key part in strengthening tax governance, supporting commercial decision making and building capability within a growing finance function.
The Challenge
Reporting to senior finance leadership, your responsibilities will include:
- Lead the tax function across direct and indirect tax compliance including income tax, GST and FBT
- Oversee tax reporting, provisioning and lodgements across multiple entities
- Provide tax advisory support on business initiatives, transactions and operational matters
- Lead and develop a small tax team, setting standards and driving best practice
- Maintain strong relationships with external advisors and regulatory bodies
- Support transfer pricing and intercompany tax matters where required
- Contribute to internal and external audit processes
- Work closely with finance and commercial stakeholders to ensure tax risks are identified and managed
- Identify opportunities to improve controls, processes and tax efficiency
- Provide support on ad hoc tax projects and business initiatives
The Expertise
To be successful in this role, you will likely have:
- Degree qualified in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
- CA or CPA qualification preferred
- Ideally you are a Senior Manager at PwC, Deloitte, EY or KPMG, or a leading mid tier accounting firm within a corporate tax team servicing a comparable portfolio.
- Alternatively, you are an industry based tax professional with experience in heavy industry or similarly complex operating environments
- Strong technical grounding across corporate tax and indirect taxes
- Experience managing or mentoring junior staff
- Background in large, complex or asset intensive environments would be well regarded
- High attention to detail with strong commercial judgement
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence across the business
